Development Manager
Citizens for Global Solutions seeks a motivated individual to support our staff in communications and media relations. The right candidate will have the potential to join our team as paid staff pending additional funding is secured. The volunteer communication manager will be an important part of the team at Citizens for Global Solutions and will research, develop and implement media strategies to promote CGS’s advocacy agenda and campaigns work. He or she will: research and write press releases, background material, op-eds and speeches as needed; will develop and maintain contact with journalists based in Washington, DC. and targeted markets across the country, as well as key international reporters, editorial writers and bloggers; work collaboratively with other staff in developing, writing and editing press materials; maintain CGS website press section and serve as an active member of the CGS blog team; assist with the publication of the Global Citizen newsletter and other material required to support and communicate the organization’s messages; ensure key spokespeople are trained and have carefully crafted messages for interviews; and manage the messaging and marketing of the organizations website, social media (Facebook, Twiiter) and evaluate the impact of the website on a regular basis to ensure it remains dynamic and user-friendly.
Citizens for Global Solutions is seeking a Development Manager to work out of its headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The Development Manager will lead development and fundraising efforts for an organizational budget of approximately $1 million. The immediate focus of the position will be solicitation of individual donations and foundation grants. The Development Manager will ultimately be involved with direct mail programs, online outreach, planned giving campaigns and campaign planning.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in development and fundraising for nonprofit organizations. He or she should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively and within time and budget constraints, a passion for the organization's vision, and the aptitude to work with the organization’s Board of Directors. Citizens for Global Solutions Internships, Fall 2010
Internships are integral in the work being done at Citizens for Global Solutions. We strive to make your time here invaluable to not only CGS, but to your future as well by creating a quality learning environment. We are seeking full-time or part-time interns for a substantive and challenging experience that will help build your professional skills. Citizens for Global Solutions envisions and advocates for a world where the U.S. works as an equal partner along side friends and allies to create a more just and secure world. We seek to empower Americans to recognize and address the inevitable local impact of seemingly distant global issues. Our policy areas include: the International Criminal Court, human rights, climate change, global peacekeeping, nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament, and United Nations reform.
We are looking to fill the following internship positions:
- Development Internship- Researching, analyzing and summarizing CGS supporters; scheduling meetings and making introductory phone calls to potential and existing supporters; work to increase our membership base; identify potential foundations partnerships; write grant inquiries and proposals; supporting the efforts of the Development Coordinator; among many other duties.
- Programs Internship- Writing press releases, fact sheets, and/or briefing papers; update Global Solutions website with new content; supporting programs management and implementation; staying up to date on our policy issues; supporting the efforts of the Programs Department; among many other duties.
- Outreach Internship- Creating, writing and backstopping electronic advocacy initiatives (online petitions, action alerts, etc.); managing and coordinating the University Chapter Programs; exploring growth opportunities in our membership base; supporting the Outreach Coordinator; among many other duties.
- Executive Internship- Assist the senior management team with everything Citizens for Global Solutions does, including planning, policy, government relations and development. Projects might include writing, analysis and coordination. Familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint required; experience with Access and QuickBooks helpful. Senior management’s areas of engagement include strategic planning, NGO relations, government relations, writing blog posts and letters to the editor, communications with donors and foundations, and attending speeches and receptions. The Executive Intern assigned to this position will handle a varied range of tasks, responding to circumstances as they arise.
- Government Relations Internship- Attending meetings with Congressional staffers on Capitol Hill; analyze the voting patterns of Congress in regards to select international related votes; follow election campaigns and communicate with candidate election committees; supporting the Government Relations staff member; among many other duties.
Qualifications:
- Passion for learning and an interest in international issues
- Knowledge of U.S. politics and/or international affairs and/or journalism OR Interest/training in Electronic Advocacy/IT technology
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills
- General computer skills. Some knowledge of HTML or FrontPage is a plus but not required
Length and Compensation:
Internships ideally last a period of 10 months or the academic year. A 3-month time frame is the minimum with preference given to those who are able to work longer.
- Interns must minimally work at least 27 hours per week but preferred availability is full time, Monday through Friday from 9:30 am till 5:30 pm.
- Interns are provided with a stipend of $10 each day that will be paid at the end of each month.
