UN Interviewing for Key Khmer Rouge Tribunal Posts
November 28 -- The United Nations announced recently it has developed a
short list of candidates to fill the positions of International Judges,
International Co-Prosecutor, International Co-Investigating Judge, and
International Judges of the Pre-Trial Chamber. Interviews for the positions
will allow the Khmer Rouge Tribunal, a mixed-court system established to try
aging former leaders of the Khmer Rouge accused of killing hundreds of
thousands of civilians between April 1975 and January 1979, to move forward.
According to the UN, the courts will be comprised of both international and
Cambodian judges to enhance prospects for impartiality and independence.
