LEGISLATIVE GOALS: Energy
OUR ENERGY VISION
"Citizens for Global Solutions envisions a world in which all people have access to clean, safe, affordable and sustainable energy resources; and in which the world’s energy resources are no longer a source of conflict, political exploitation or environmental destruction."
Our current legislative goals are designed to help us achieve this vision. With your help, we can get the U.S. on track towards a safe, just and sustainable energy future. We will continue to update you on progress made on achieving these priorities. So don't forget to check back soon!
LEGISLATIVE GOALS - ENERGY
- VICTORY! Senate Passes S.193: Energy Diplomacy and Security Act of 2007
This bill gets the U.S. working together with other nations to improve energy security, expand access to renewable energy technologies and fight climate change. It also corrects major flaws in policy coordination structures, which prevent the U.S. from effectively developing and implementing energy policy. Faced with enormous energy challenges from fossil fuel dependence to climate change, improving policy coordination and building partnerships are key steps towards achieving a secure and sustainable future.
Status: VICTORY! Chalk one up for the good guys, because with passage of this bill we're one step closer to achieving our dream!
What's next: Build on our success! We will be working with our partners to make sure that Congress and the administration live up to the commitment they made, and that they take the next step! This is only the beginning! -
S.Res.30: Biden-Lugar Climate Resolution
This resolution puts the U.S. Senate on record as supporting U.S. participation in binding international climate agreements. When it comes to climate change, the only real solutions are international solutions. Getting the U.S. back in the game is a critical first step towards curbing climate change.
Status: We're Getting Closer! The resolution passed out of Senate Foreign Relations Committee by voice vote on March 28, 2007. Since then, with your help we have come close to getting the sixty votes needed to pass the resolution. Unfortunately, when the Senate energy bill came to the floor in late June, we were still two votes short, so we couldn't get the resolution included in the bill.
But we have another shot this fall, when the Senate tackles its climate bill. And with the next round of climate negotiations happening in Bali in December, what better way to send a message to the world that the U.S. is back in the game?
What's next: Stay Tuned. We will need your help to make sure this gets into the Senate's fall climate bill!

- H.R.1886 - Ending Oil Aid
Despite recording record profits of over $140 billion last year, the oil and gas industry continues to receive billions of dollars in support from the federal government, a large portion of which come from funds and institutions whose purpose is to alleviate poverty. This "oil aid," contributes to climate change and undermines core development goals. H.R. 1886 would end the use of foreign assistance funds to subsidize the overseas operations of oil and gas companies. Ending Oil Aid is critical fighting both global poverty and climate change.
Status: Introduced by Rep. Hinchey (D-NY) on April 17, 2007 and referred to the Financial Services and Foreign Affairs Committees.
What's next: Stay tuned! We will need your help to get this passed!
