Our Energy Vision

Citizens for Global Solutions envisions a world in which all people have access to clean, safe, affordable and sustainable energy resources; and in which the world’s energy resources are no longer a source of conflict, political exploitation or environmental destruction.

To achieve this future, we support comprehensive, globally-focused energy policies based on these fundamental principles:

I. The U.S. should work in partnership with other nations to:

• Achieve a global transition away from fossil fuel dependence and towards diverse, sustainable energy sources
• Provide poor countries with the clean and safe energy tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty while maintaining the integrity of local ecosystems
• Ensure that the world’s energy resources are not used as political bargaining tools

II. Strong and effective international institutions are essential to achieving a safe, just and livable energy future.

III. Ambitious domestic action on climate change and energy efficiency is the key to effective re-engagement with the international community on energy issues.

IV. There is no “silver bullet.” Overcoming today's energy challenges will require using a variety of policy and technology tools.

V. Setting a market price for carbon is essential.

VI. Expanding government support for research and development of energy technologies that boost energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and helping those technologies make the leap from lab to marketplace is critical.
