About the Artist

How did you hear about Citizens for Global Solutions Flash Contest?
I've been into animation for a while, and I've noticed some animations sponsoring this website around places. When a friend of mine told me he was entering, I became interested and decided to enter this year.

Was this your first Flash piece? How did you first learn Flash?
This was not my first Flash piece - I submitted my first piece online in January 2004. I mainly taught myself how to use Flash, with the help of one or two very small tutorials and a couple friends.

How did you choose your topic –OR- Why is your topic important to you?
When I'm not being a nerd on the computer, my friend and I hang out in the woods behind my house. The problem is...there's trash everywhere. We find bottles, cans, tires, oil barrels, cups, plastic bags, and food wrappers everywhere we go. Recently, we've been taking giant trash bags back to the woods and cleaning everything up. I've decided to focus on this topic because I see it very much in my everyday life, and it's easy for everyone to participate in.

Before the contest, did you consider yourself fairly knowledgeable about global issues? Has this contest opened your eyes in any way?
I'd say that making the animation itself inspired me to follow its example a little more. It's really not hard to pick something up, and it makes you feel good to know you're smarter than the guys who left the trash there in the first place.

Did you have any weird, funny, horrible, or in some other way memorable moments during the making of your Flash piece for this contest?
Hmm...well, I was going to make the animation 640 x 480, and when I had already completed around 20 seconds of it, I read the rules a little more carefully and realized that it had to be 550 x 400...that was pretty annoying to fix, and it discouraged me a lot. I'm just lucky I read the rules before making the entire animation in 640 x 480.

Any last words/Anything else you’d like for us and the flash viewers to know?

You don't need to pick up trash to help out - just don't leave yours behind. By leaving your trash behind, you're giving someone else more hard work. Someone who cares about the world and the people here to enjoy it. Let's just hope that, in a hundred years, the Moon doesn't have the same fate. =)
