Contest Rules

  • Deadline: The CGS Multimedia Contest is accepting movie submissions until October 1, 2008.
  • Prizes: On October 8, 2008, Citizens for Global Solutions will announce the Best-In-Show video as well as first place winners in the three submission categories (Flash animation, spoken word and digital video). The Best-In-Show winner will receive $2000 and each first place winner will receive $600. The winners will have their videos featured on our website and all five winners will also be invited to guest blog for Citizens for Global Solutions. In addition, videos will be posted on the On Day One website.
  • To Participate:

    1. You must register by clicking here .
    2. You should then upload your video (in any compatible format) to our YouTube channel.
    3. Please tag your video as 2008MovieContest and also the category you want it to be considered for - either Peacekeeping, the International Criminal Court or the International Community.
  • You MUST include: A 10-second, full-screen slate (also known as a "title screen") at the very beginning of your video with the following information:

    1. Student producer name
    2. Contest Title: "CGS 2008 Movie Contest"
    3. The Citizens for Global Solutions logo (available here)
    4. Title of entry
    5. Total running time (up to two minutes)
  • REMEMBER: Videos without the above information will not be eligible.
  • Music: Use music in your video only if you have permission from the copyright holder. For information on music copyrights for students, go to the Student Press Law Center website. Alternatively, you may make your own music. Creative Commons is a great resource for music you can use for free!

  • Judging: The first round of cuts will be made by a special panel made up of Global Solutions staff and active members. Judging of the top entries will be done by a diverse, 5-member judging panel. Submissions will be evaluated based on how well the issue was addressed (40%), creativity and originality (30%), total YouTube views (20%), and technical aptitude (10%).
  • Contest Terms & Conditions:

  1. Citizens for Global Solutions reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed overly offensive, which is subject to the opinion of staff at the national office.

  2. No purchase necessary, but you will need to have software to edit your digital videos. Microsoft Windows includes a package called Windows Movie Maker (for the PC) and iMovie (for the Mac).

  3. All submissions must be available to Citizens for Global Solutions for unlimited use, in whole or in part, for any purpose (including website promotion of future Multimedia Contests, future DVD distribution, educational use, film festivals, and theatrical distribution) without notification or compensation beyond the cash prizes given during the life of the Citizens for Global Solutions 2008 Multimedia Contest.

  4. All taxes (federal, state and local, if any) are the responsibility of the winners.

  5. Citizens for Global Solutions is not responsible for late, misdirected or corrupted entries.

  6. Offer void where prohibited, restricted, or regulated by law.

  7. All entrants under 18 must have parental consent to be eligible to win. Citizens for Global Solutions reserves the right to disqualify any entry at any stage of the contest.

  8. We apologize but international students are subject to a 30 per cent reduction in prize money for U.S. tax purposes.
