John Washburn, Convener of the American NGO Coalition for an ICC, spoke on the September 12th conference call about the International Criminal Court, the status of cases, the preparatory meetings of the ICC Review Conference, and many other ICC issues. Mr. Washburn also answered questions from callers regarding the International Criminal Court.

Promoting new International Criminal Court resolutions in both the House and Senate

The United States has made promoting and protecting human rights and the punishment for those individuals that abuse these rights a cornerstone of its foreign policy. Americans acknowledge the need to prosecute individuals who perpetrate the most heinous crimes anywhere in the world. At the end of the 20th century, one of the bloodiest in human history, the international community adopted a treaty creating the world's first independent and permanent court to investigate and prosecute individuals accused of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity - the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Senator Christopher Dodd and Representative Patrick Kennedy have introduced concurrent resolutions in the Senate and House respectively, bolstering the U.S. relationship with the ICC. The goal of the Partners Project is, through lobby visits, to get as many Senators and Representatives to cosponsor the Senate and House resolutions as possible.
